Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment is applied when a person wants to restore his crooked teeth, fix improper bites and treat disorders of the face and jaw development. This type of treatment has no age restrictions, so both children and adults can have it done.

When should a person consult a doctor-orthodontist?

● improper alignment of primary teeth;
● permanent teeth coming in later than average;
● primary teeth extracted prematurely due to caries;
● teeth gapped, crooked, crowded, asymmetrical, worn down;
● noticeable speech-language pathologies (e.g. dyslalia)
● often sick with rhinitis (hay fever), breathes through mouth (upper jaw growth slows);
● bad habits (finger sucking, nail, pencil etc. chewing);
● chin is too forward or too far back.

● teeth gapped, crooked, crowded, asymmetrical, worn down;
● upper teeth protrude;
● protruding lower teeth overlap upper teeth;
● lower teeth are hidden by overlapping upper teeth (deep bite);
● upper front teeth do not meet lower front teeth (open bite);
● dental midline of upper and lower incisors does not align;
● apparent gap between jaws when biting;
● difficulty chewing, biting off food.
● suffering from bad habits (lip chewing, cheek biting);
● visible facial asymmetry.

Orthodontic treatment specifications

● For children. Early treatment, started between 6-10 yrs. old, can help permanent teeth grow properly, create enough space for them, so that in the future dental extractions may be avoided, can also correct jawbone development.
Usually retainers are used in this kind of treatment.

● For teenagers. After all permanent teeth and jawbones have finished growing, occlusion is corrected using bracket systems.
During adolescence full bracket systems used in orthodontic treatment can help avoid malocclusions as well as other developmental anomalies of the face and jawbone.

● For adults. Orthodontic treatment lasts a bit longer for adults because bones have already finished developing, and in older people bone loss may have begun to occur, however, after applying the right treatment method, the result is great.
